ScaleIt
The "ScaleIt" add-on for Blender is a tool designed to facilitate the scaling of 3D models for print, based on common paper sizes. Its primary function is to adjust the active camera's Orthographic scale and output resolution, ensuring that the 3D models are approximately scaled for printing purposes. This is particularly beneficial for artists and designers who require their models to be printed at specific scales.
This add-on streamlines the process of aligning 3D renders with specific physical print dimensions, making it an invaluable tool for those who require scale representations of their printed models.

Key Features)
- Paper Size Compatibility: The add-on supports a range of standard paper sizes, catering to various printing needs.
- Camera Orientation Adjustment: Users have the option to set the camera orientation to either portrait or landscape, offering flexibility in model presentation.
- DPI (Dots Per Inch) Settings: Provides options for adjusting DPI settings, allowing for control over print quality.
- Custom Scaling: Users can input a scaling factor relative to the paper size. For example, entering '5' would set the model to a 1/5th scale.
- Integrated Camera and Render Resolution Settings: This feature automatically adjusts the camera's orthographic scale and render resolution according to the selected paper size, DPI value, and any custom scale entered.
- Descriptive name: Name the camera with the properties from the add-on
- User-Friendly Interface: The add-on integrates seamlessly into Blender's UI, specifically within the sidebar, for easy access and operation.
Installation Process)
- Obtain the add-on as a ZIP file.
- In Blender, navigate to
Edit > Preferences > Add-ons

Install
and select the downloaded ZIP file. - Enable the add-on by ticking the box next to its name.
Usage Guidelines)
Access the ScaleIt panel located in the 3D View's sidebar (Shortcut N). Also ensure there is a camera present in the scene.
- 1. Choose the desired paper size.
- 2. Choose the camera orientation: Portrait or Landscape.
- 3. Choose Your printer DPI setting. The default is 300 and a common value.
- 4. Set your custom scale value. Entering '5' would set the model to a 1/5 scale.
- 5. Enable'Name Camera' to include a descriptive name with the properties entered on the add-on. Leave unchecked for the camera name to remain unchanged.
- 6. Click on "Apply Scale" to apply your chosen settings.
- 7. Use the 'Render Image' button to render from the active scene camera.
Limitations)
- Assumes a border size of 10mm all around and some printers may vary.
- Limited Paper sizes and DPI values available due to very high output resolution for larger paper formats.
- To ensure precise dimensions, always refer to the explicitly stated measurements on the drawing. Avoid relying on scaling from the drawing itself, as this can lead to inaccuracies.
- Assumes a default unit scale of 1
System Requirements)
Blender version 4.0.1 or newer.
